Locked Doors Lead To Two Teens Arrested
This is a viewer generated theory submitted by "pattyhudson1" It was among the top three winning entries submitted in the viewer discussion area.

It was a conspiracy to some extent, or maybe you could say he was more an accomplice, since it was not premeditated. Johnny knew what he did to help Olivia was wrong, but he knew he had to or risk being accused of murdering her himself. Olivia was somewhat honest when she spoke with her Aunt Detective, but not completely. See Olivia was very tired of the way Mari acted, and she was sick of her slutty behavior. She knew Mari was a tease, could get anyone she wanted, male or female, and Olivia was tired of walking behind her trying to make her act appropriately. Perhaps there was some jealousy there as well, as Olli did see Mari as a very beautiful girl, either way, what happened in the bathroom was more of a situation gone badly than a premeditated hatred.

They had spent the morning at the skate park, as she had mentioned in the interview, but Olivia was more upset with Mari’s behavior with the boys than she let on. When Mari went for funyuns and root beer, she didn’t go alone. Olivia went with her to the gas station and was waiting for her outside the bathroom to bring back the key. They were done washing their shoes, so Mari’s skates were in Olivia’s car.

Mari went inside to get the key, flirting with Johnny as usual. Johnny stumbled over himself as he always did and gave Mari the key. He had decided he was going to ask her out this time, he just needed to get up the courage. He said that there was a problem with the bathroom door and he’d help her get it open. He was stalling, trying to come up with the right words to say. When they returned to the restroom door, Johnny saw Olivia and realized he would now not have the nerve to ask Mari out on a date. Once the door was open, Mari saw Johnny’s obvious discomfort in seeing Olivia, so she grabbed Johnny by the shirt front and pulled him into the bathroom, teasing him about having sex in the bathroom on his lunch break. Olivia was outraged and she began to yell at Mari to stop acting like a slut. She told Mari to leave Johnny alone. He was obviously bewildered by Mari’s behavior and just stood there wide eyed, being yanked around by the shirt by Mari as she argued back with Olivia. Olivia attempted to get between the two, while Johnny stated over and over, “I really need to get back to work, really. I just need to get back to work.” Johnny was unsure what to do. He was caught in the middle of a cat fight.

Pushing and shoving, yelling from Olivia, laughter from Mari, and Johnny caught in the middle. And then it happened. Olivia had pulled out a knife from somewhere and had cut Mari on the arm. Olivia always carried a knife, especially when her Aunt warned her to be careful so often. She didn't tell anyone about it, she just kept it for protection. But this time, Olivia threatened to cut Mari again if she didn’t let go of Johnny and stop her horrible behavior. This angered Mari, which led to a barrage of cursing and more pushing and yelling. Johnny was able to step out of the way while the girls continued their battle, watching in complete bewilderment. “How did I get himself into this mess?” he asked himself. To his shock and horror, he saw Olivia stab Mari, several times, once in the stomach. He stood there in shock. Mari fell to the floor, bleeding. Olivia and Johnny looked at Mari, then looked at each other.

Olivia was the first to speak. “This is your fault. Why did you have to follow her to the restroom?” Johnny didn’t know what to say. He still could not believe what he just saw. All he could think of was whether or not there were customers waiting for him. Olivia began again, “You are just as much at fault for this as I am. You should never have followed her to the bathroom. None of this would have happened if it weren’t for you. What did you think you were going to do with her in here anyway? I have family on the police department, you had better help me or else I will say you did this all on your own. I’ll swear I saw you do it. I’ll tell them I watched you walk back here with her.” Johnny was scared, and still in shock. Olivia told Johnny they had to make this look like someone else did it, or they’d both be in trouble. Johnny was in too much of a stupor to disagree. Olivia looked around outside, seeing no customers, went to her car to get Mari’s skates, and some candles she remembered she had tossed in the trunk last week for a school project. She said she had an idea and it wouldn’t take but a second to get things fixed up. She had heard enough stories from her Aunt to know that there were many sick people out there that kill for strange reasons. She knew if she staged the scene, she could place blame elsewhere.

She set the candles up in a cross pattern on the floor and put Mari’s skates on her feet. She told Johnny they had just seen some creep at the library that was real religious and she could maybe pin this on him. She began to write a scripture on the floor in blood but after beginning, she couldn’t think of what to write.

Johnny was coming out of his fog by this time and was getting pretty scared. He didn’t know if he could actually be blamed for this or not. He knew nothing about the law or whether she could convince her police family to believe her or not. He was scared that Olivia would lie and he’d go to jail for the rest of his life for being a chicken weasel that got caught up in the middle of a cat fight. He went along with Olivia, hoping she knew what she was doing.

Johnny suggested the bible verse on a note. Proverbs 6:25. Olivia asked Johnny what it said, agreed it would be fitting, and quickly scribbled it on a piece of paper, leaving it next to the now very still Mari. She cleaned the message off the floor with paper towels and grabbed Mari’s phone and money. They lit the candles on the floor and agreed to leave the restroom unlocked so that the next person that came in to use it would find her. He would act surprised that there was a dead girl in the bathroom. Olivia would go about her business, telling the story that she thought Mari had gone back to party with the boys at the park. She washed her hands, cleaned up the sink and took the paper towels, phone, and shoes with her. She also had the key. What neither one of them knew was that Mari was not dead yet, and left her own little message on the floor after they left. TTFn. TaTa for now. Her favorite saying when she frequently text messaged Olivia.

Olivia went back to her car and left quickly, but then decided she did not know or trust Johnny well enough to allow him to just hold this deep dark secret. She needed to ensure the police suspected him and not her if this were to ever get out. She drove back to the gas station, parking behind the building unseen, and taped the out of order sign to the door. She thanked God for not taking her book bag out of her car after school yesterday. It had all the supplies she needed. She locked the restroom door and left. She was on her way to burn the evidence.

Johnny somehow managed to go back to work. He was a mess. He decided on his own to come up with the story of the guy sneaking out of the office, he could add the whistling hymn theory too if he needed to be more convincing. That way he could blame the library creep maybe. All would have gone well until the customer came in to use the restroom and asked about it being out of order. That threw Johnny. He told her it was ok, the door was unlocked and to just go in but she told him the door was locked, which really confused Johnny. But the police didn’t seem to think this was odd though. The police decided that a gas station that regularly leaves their bathroom doors unlocked would not require a key. And if a gas station regularly locks the bathroom doors, the attendant would not be surprised when a customer states the door is locked. They would not check it, because it would be normal. They may be surprised that the key is missing, but they would not feel obligated to check the door for the customer, they would just find the extra key and give it to the customer. Why was Johnny confused by the locked door when he was used to it being locked? Because Johnny was involved. And what did the police find out when they questioned Johnny the third time? With a little pressure, they found that Olivia did the actual stabbing, while Johnny helped cover it up. They were both arrested and charged with the murder and cover up of Marissa McConnell.
