Yvonne Boyd is the Accommodation Manager at the Yoknapatawpha County Conference Center (YCCC) and discovered Jared Plunk's body.

Detectives Murphy and Parker talked to her again at the Yoknapatawpha County Sheriff's Department.

Participants:

Detective Murphy: Good morning, Mrs. Boyd. I think you know why we wanted to talk to you again.

Yvonne Boyd: Probably about Jared Plunk, but I've already told you everything I know.

Detective Murphy: Would you state your name and address for the record, please?

Yvonne Boyd: Yes, I will. My name is Yvonne Boyd, and I live at 1509 Smallwood Drive in Oxford.

Detective Murphy: We'd like to go over a few things with you, Mrs. Boyd.

Yvonne Boyd: I can't imagine what we could possibly talk about that we haven't already discussed.

Detective Murphy: The last time we talked, a lot of things were going on, and it was pretty upsetting. With all that was happening, is there anything you maybe forgot to mention about your relationship with Jared Plunk?

Yvonne Boyd: Like what? I don't know what you mean.

Detective Murphy: Mrs. Boyd, I think you do know what I mean.

Yvonne Boyd: How did you find out about that?

Detective Murphy: It doesn't matter. What's important is that we did, and now we need to hear what you have to say about it.

Yvonne Boyd: It's just so humiliating.

Detective Murphy: We're not here to judge you as long as you didn't break the law. Did you?

Yvonne Boyd: No! Not unless there's a law against being stupid.

Detective Parker: If only.

Detective Murphy: Tell us about your relationship with Jared.

Yvonne Boyd: We had a brief affair. It was really stupid. I'll never forgive myself.

Detective Parker: Did your husband forgive you?

Yvonne Boyd: He says he did, but how can you ever really know?

Detective Murphy: How did the affair end?

Yvonne Boyd: One day, Jared just said he didn't want to see me anymore.

Detective Murphy: How did you feel about that?

Yvonne Boyd: I don't know. That kind of thing always stings at least a little, but I think mostly I was relieved.

Detective Parker: Relieved?

Yvonne Boyd: Jared wasn't a very nice person, and he could be vindictive. I'd been wanting to break it off with him for a while, but I didn't know what he might do. I thought he might take it out on my husband. But it turned out he dumped Taylor the same day he dumped me—the bastard.

Detective Murphy: When did that happen?

Yvonne Boyd: Around Thanksgiving.

Detective Murphy: Did your husband know about the affair?

Yvonne Boyd: Not until after it was over. I had to tell him. I couldn't live with the guilt.

Detective Murphy: But you say he forgave you?

Yvonne Boyd: That's what he said.

Detective Murphy: You don't believe him?

Yvonne Boyd: I want to.

Detective Murphy: Did he also forgive Jared?

Yvonne Boyd: No.

Detective Murphy: Did he ever confront Jared about the affair?

Yvonne Boyd: No. It's not a good idea to confront Jared. I told you. He's vindictive.

Detective Parker: Are you sure you didn't see a weapon at the crime scene?

Yvonne Boyd: What? What kind of a weapon?

Detective Parker: What kind of weapon do you think it was?

Yvonne Boyd: I have no idea. How could I possibly know what kind of weapon was used? What are you trying to do?

Detective Parker: We're not trying to do anything but get to the bottom of this murder. You were at the scene. You found the body, so naturally, we're going to keep coming to you for information as often as we need to. So, what kind of weapon was lying on the carpet when you saw the body? Or was it still in the victim's body?

Yvonne Boyd: I don't know anything about it. It's ridiculous for you to ask me that. I tell you, I didn't see a weapon! I called 911 as quickly as possible. There wasn't any weapon there unless it was under the body, where I couldn't see it.

Detective Parker: You didn't see a knife?

Yvonne Boyd: A knife? I don't think I want to answer any more questions. My throat hurts. I think I'm coming down with something. I need some water.

Detective Murphy: Here, have some of this water, Mrs. Boyd, but we would like to continue.

Yvonne Boyd: Thank you for the water, but I have nothing new to tell you. I'm tired now, and I want to go home and lie down.

Detective Parker: We found the knife, Yvonne.

Yvonne Boyd: What knife?

Detective Parker: The knife that killed Jared Plunk. The knife that you hid after removing it from the crime scene.

Yvonne Boyd: You did? How did you find it? I mean, where did you find it?

Detective Parker: We found the knife right where you hid it, Mrs. Boyd, in the storage closet in the staff lounge. When we examine a crime scene, we leave no stone unturned.

Yvonne Boyd: You think you're very clever, don't you? Why do you keep asking these stupid questions and making these ridiculous accusations?

Detective Parker: Whoever hid the knife left some fingerprints behind. Would you like to know whose fingerprints they were?

Yvonne Boyd: All right, all right, I did take the knife. I didn't kill Jared. I just felt like I should get rid of the knife. I didn't kill him. I swear I didn't. Oh, what have I gotten myself into? I'm innocent.

Detective Parker: Why did you feel you should hide the knife if you didn't kill Jared? That does sound like something a guilty person would do, don't you think?

Yvonne Boyd: I'm not guilty, I tell you. I just panicked.

Detective Parker: You panicked? Why would you panic if you weren't guilty? Most people who discover a body would be too upset to touch the weapon, especially a bloody knife. Why did you panic?

Yvonne Boyd: I don't know. I was just so scared, and the knife was frightening, so I took it. And I was sick to my stomach at touching the thing.

Detective Parker: If you didn't kill him, do you know who did? Are you covering for that person? Is that why you hid the knife?

Yvonne Boyd: No, no, I'm not covering for anyone, and I didn't kill Jared. I was just in such a state of shock that I picked up that knife. Am I under arrest?

Detective Parker: No, you aren't under arrest—yet. But you are on thin ice, and you need to come clean before things get worse for you. What about your husband? Are you covering for him?

Yvonne Boyd: I told you my husband was still asleep when I left the room that morning. I don't have anything more to say. I think I need to call my attorney. My husband is going to be so upset and angry at the way you've treated me.

Detective Parker: Is that right?

Yvonne Boyd: You've actually accused both Taylor and myself of murdering Jared Plunk. What's wrong with you? Do we look like the kind of people who do something like that?

Detective Parker: We meet all kinds, Mrs. Boyd, and when it comes down to it, anyone can commit murder. We haven't accused you of anything except what you've already admitted. You took the knife and hid it, and you didn't think it would be discovered.

Yvonne Boyd: I want out of here! I told you I want to call my attorney, and you'll be hearing from him, I promise.

Detective Murphy: Of course, you can call your attorney at any time, Mrs. Boyd. You may need him before too long. But don't make any sudden trips because I'm sure we'll need to talk to you again real soon.
