Peter Vicknair is RJ Brandt's science teacher. Detectives Armstrong and Murphy interviewed him in his classroom during his lunch period. The interview was recorded on a portable tape recorder with the witness' knowledge and consent.

Participants:

  • Detective T. Armstrong
  • Detective S. Murphy
  • Peter Vicknair

Detective Armstrong: Good afternoon, Mr. Vicknair. Thanks for speaking with us.

Peter Vicknair: Absolutely, just as long as we're done before my students return.

Detective Armstrong: That shouldn't be a problem. We just have a few questions.

Peter Vicknair: Yes, I imagine it's regarding RJ. A strange young man.

Detective Murphy: What do you mean by "strange"?

Peter Vicknair: Well, perhaps I'm too quick to judge. He and his family were displaced by the hurricane when he was younger, so I'm sure that's had quite an effect on him. He's not very receptive to anything in class, and he's antisocial. With the exception of the other day, of course. He brought that skull, and the kids thought it was so "cool."

Detective Armstrong: Has RJ shown any other odd behavior?

Peter Vicknair: Well, like I said, he's rather antisocial and he doesn't really do much schoolwork. The teachers, myself included, try to be as sympathetic as we can, considering his background.

Detective Armstrong: Does RJ ever show any signs that's he scared or angry?

Peter Vicknair: Well ... not really. You know how kids this age are, but I haven't really seen any unusual outbursts or acting out of any kind.

Detective Murphy: Are there any other kids in school that you've seen him talk to, hang out with?

Peter Vicknair: No, not really. I suppose I would call him a loner. He keeps to himself.

Detective Armstrong: I think we're about done here, Mr. Vicknair. Is there anything else you can think of that might help with our investigation?

Peter Vicknair: Well, come to think of it. I mentioned that RJ doesn't do much schoolwork, but he has shown an interest in the dissection part of our course.

Detective Murphy: How so?

Peter Vicknair: He seems to be looking forward to dissecting the frogs. That's about the only thing he really has shown some interest in.

Detective Murphy: OK, thank you very much, sir. We'll let you get back to your lunch. If you think of anything else that might be relevant, please let us know.

Peter Vicknair: Certainly. Have a good day.

Interview ends: 12:12 p.m.
