REPORTING OFFICER'S NARRATIVE(Brief narrative of the facts surrounding the offense and the arrest.)

At 2:31 p.m., Emergency Citizen Services received a 911 call reporting the discovery of what appeared to be two human feet in a cotton field just outside Bruce. The caller identified himself as Ed Piccolo, the property owner.

Calhoun County Sheriff's Unit 11217 (Deputy A. J. Randall) was dispatched and arrived at the scene at 2:43 p.m. Environmental conditions at the scene upon arrival are as follows: Exterior Ambient Temperature 81°F/27°C; Relative Humidity: 27%.

Upon arrival, R/O was met by an adult white male, who identified himself as Ed Piccolo (Person 2). Piccolo told R/O he had taken his two hunting dogs out for a walk in one of his cotton fields at approximately 2:00 p.m.

Piccolo said the dogs "homed in" on something in the field and would not respond to his commands to return. Piccolo said he went over to investigate what the dogs were interested in and saw portions of what looked like two human feet "sticking out of the dirt." Piccolo said he then grabbed the dogs by their collars and pulled them away from the location and returned to his residence, where he called 911.

Piccolo then directed R/O to a location on the west side of his property, alongside Highway 32, approximately 3 miles west of Bruce. At that location, R/O observed what appeared to be two human feet protruding from the soil. Closer examination confirmed that the feet were human.

At 3:02 p.m., R/O radioed Base and requested a Crime Scene unit and a Coroner's unit be dispatched to the scene. R/O then secured the area and waited for the arrival of CSU and Coroner personnel.

CSU arrived at the scene at 3:07 p.m. R/O informed CSU that, to the best of her knowledge, the following persons had occasion to enter the crime scene areas and should be documented by CSU personnel: Ed Piccolo and herself.

Coroner's Inspector Rhonda Hatch arrived at the scene at 3:19 p.m. Inspector Hatch confirmed the feet were human and noted that, upon initial examination, the feet appeared to be female.

When CSU had completed preliminary processing and fully unearthed the feet, Inspector Hatch observed that both feet appeared to have been severed at the ankle. Inspector Hatch estimated that the feet had probably been severed 3-4 weeks before their discovery and said a more precise estimate would result from the autopsy.

Inspector Hatch stayed with the remains until CSU indicated the remains could be removed from the scene without impacting other evidence. The remains were transferred into the custody of Coroner's Inspector Hatch, removed from the scene at 4:20 p.m., and transported to the coroner's office for autopsy.

Non-human remains evidence in the custody of CSU for transport to the Crime Lab. CSU completed processing and departed the scene at 5:28 p.m.

R/O advised Piccolo that the area should remain undisturbed until released by the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department. R/O departed the scene at 5:37 p.m.
