Kyle Ferguson interview #2
Friday, January 29, 2021 – 11:30 a.m.
Kyle Ferguson was recently released after serving a sentence for felony possession of a controlled substance. He was convicted by then-ADA Spenser Brooks.
Detectives Armstrong and Murphy re-interviewed him at the Yoknapatawpha County Sheriff's Department.
Participants:
- Detective T. Armstrong
- Detective S. Murphy
- Kyle Ferguson
Detective Armstrong: Well, look what the cat drug in.
Kyle Ferguson: "Big Man" here. Reportin' for duty. What's my job today, Barney? Or do you go by Fife?
Detective Armstrong: Name and address.
Kyle Ferguson: Kyle "Big Man" Ferguson. Still live in Oxford, and I'm sure you know that. 394 Garner Street.
Detective Armstrong: Got your new meth lab set up there?
Kyle Ferguson: I told you before I don't do that stuff no more. Why don't you give it a rest?
Detective Armstrong: We'll find your lab eventually, you know.
Kyle Ferguson: Good luck finding something that doesn't exist.
Detective Armstrong: What about crack? You dealing that now?
Kyle Ferguson: I get it. You're tryin' to stir me up. Ha. Can't fool me, Barney.
Detective Armstrong: When was the last time you saw D.A. Brooks?
Kyle Ferguson: Are you guys deaf or just getting old? Or maybe you're the ones taking drugs, and it's affecting your short-term memory.
Detective Armstrong: Answer the question.
Kyle Ferguson: I haven't seen our pal Brooks since that day in court when his lies about me put me behind bars.
Detective Armstrong: What kind of gun do you have now?
Kyle Ferguson: Ain't got no damn gun! What kind of memory drugs you takin'? Ain't workin' too good, are they? I bet you use Viagra, too. Is it workin' as well as the memory stuff? Sad.
Detective Armstrong: Oh, that's right. You had to toss that gun after you used it to shoot Spenser Brooks. That's why you don't have it anymore, isn't it?
Kyle Ferguson: I didn't kill the dude, but I'm glad I don't have to see his ugly face ever again. I'm lovin' the picture in my mind of him burnin' in hell. Very enjoyable.
Detective Murphy: You told us that you weren't at Wall Doxey on the day Spenser Brooks was murdered. You still make that claim?
Kyle Ferguson: Look. I never even been to Wall Doxey Park. I lied. My dad hated me, and I hated him, so he never took me to no park or nothin'. My buddies' parents took them to the park, and so I lied about my dad takin' me to park to all of 'em. I figured I might as well carry on with it.
Detective Armstrong: You expect us to believe that?
Kyle Ferguson: Don't matter to me if you do or not.
Detective Murphy: We have a problem with what you're telling us about Wall Doxey, Kyle.
Kyle Ferguson: Oh, yeah? What's that?
Detective Murphy: We found your fingerprints there.
Kyle Ferguson: In a park? Yeah, right. Tell me another one.
Detective Murphy: Inside a cabin, right next to where Spenser Brooks was shot.
Kyle Ferguson: Why should I believe that when I know you'd lie as soon as look at me?
Detective Murphy: It's a fact regardless of whether you believe it.
Kyle Ferguson: Look. I'm tired of this cat and mouse crap, so I'm gonna give you a little help. Instead of being so intent on lockin' me up for something I ain't doin', maybe you better check out a guy by the name of Roy Cook?
Detective Murphy: Who's that?
Kyle Ferguson: He's a park ranger out there at Wall Doxey.
Detective Murphy: The same Wall Doxey you've never been to?
Kyle Ferguson: Hey, do you want the help or not? 'Cause I can just walk on out of here and leave y'all holdin' your, uh, devices.
Detective Murphy: So this Roy Cook, what about him?
Kyle Ferguson: I'm sayin' you should take a look at him.
Detective Murphy: Why?
Kyle Ferguson: I ain't sayin' no more.
Detective Armstrong: That's not going to fly. You got something to say? Say it. And back it up with something we can verify.
Kyle Ferguson: I ain't about to start doing your job for you. I already gave you more than you had before.
Detective Armstrong: Did you?
Kyle Ferguson: Believe me or don't. That's on you. I'm sure you think I'm lyin' because of my record, but sometimes people who did wrong in the past go straight, and people who look straight are doing more wrong than you know.
Detective Armstrong: If you're sending us on a wild goose chase, it's going to blow back on you, you know?
Kyle Ferguson: You're lookin' to pin something on me, and you're barkin' up the wrong tree. I got no more to say.
Detective Murphy: In that case, let's get back to your fingerprint in a cabin at Wall Doxey.
Kyle Ferguson: I got nothin' else to tell you.
Detective Murphy: You don't want to tell us how your print got there? You'd rather we come up with our own theory?
Kyle Ferguson: You wanna talk about that more? I wanna have my attorney with me.
Detective Murphy: Oh?
Kyle Ferguson: I need a witness to the scam y'all are trying to pull on me.
Detective Murphy: Do you want to call your attorney and get him in here now?
Kyle Ferguson: Nope. Right now, I gotta go. Got a job interview. Unless you're arresting me for something?
Detective Armstrong: Go ahead. I have no doubt we'll be seeing you again real soon.
