REPORTING OFFICER'S NARRATIVE(Brief narrative of the facts surrounding the offense and the arrest.)
R/O was dispatched to the scene at 10:04 p.m. in response to a 911 call reporting a man in possession of a human hand at Duffy's Bar & Grill.
Upon arrival at 10:10 p.m., R/O entered the establishment and was met by an adult male who identified himself as Patrick Mulvaney, the complainant.
Mulvaney said a female customer had notified him that an adult white male patron was in possession of a container he claimed contained a human hand and was displaying same to other patrons. The female customer pointed out an adult male identified as John Reagle to Mulvaney.
Mulvaney said he asked Reagle to show him the container and, after seeing it, decided to notify authorities.
Mulvaney noted Reagle had been at the establishment for several hours and had consumed multiple alcoholic beverages. Mulvaney directed R/O to Reagle's location at a booth near the street-facing windows.
R/O observed Reagle had in his possession a plastic storage container. R/O approached Reagle and requested that he accompany R/O outside the establishment. R/O also requested Reagle bring the container. Reagle complied.
On the sidewalk outside the establishment, R/O noted Reagle had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and appeared to be intoxicated.
R/O asked Reagle to identify the contents of the container. Reagle said it was the hand of his former girlfriend, Lisa Holman. R/O requested permission to examine the container. Reagle agreed and turned the container over to R/O.
R/O conducted an external examination of the container and determined the contents appeared to be a human hand, severed at the wrist. R/O opened the container to conduct an internal examination. The odor emanating from the container was strong and unpleasant. R/O replaced the lid on the container and terminated the examination.
R/O advised Reagle of his rights and placed him under arrest. R/O transported Reagle to the Yoknapatawpha County Detention Center for processing.
