Shiloh Bates interview #3

Shiloh Bates is a student at Ole Miss and a former resident of the 24/7 live stream show, Under Glass: The Study of Generation Z in the Real.

Detectives Beckwith and Magee talked to her again at the Yoknapatawpha County Sheriff's Department.

Detective Beckwith: Please state your name and address for the record.

Shiloh Bates: Shiloh Bates, and I still haven't moved from 1021 Molly Barr Road.

Detective Magee: This shouldn't take long. We just have a few more follow-up questions.

Shiloh Bates: I seriously don't know any other way to communicate to you people that I don't know anything about the murder of Hoyt Biffle.

Detective Beckwith: Ms. Bates, were you completely honest with us last time we spoke?

Shiloh Bates: Yes, detective. I was completely honest with you the last time we spoke.

Detective Magee: So, you still claim that you've never been in the equipment shed in the backyard at Under Glass

Shiloh Bates: Correct, nor any other equipment shed. It's really not my style. And the thong in a bag? Because we are going to discuss my thong again, right? I have no idea how that thong got inside the equipment shed. Why are you bringing this up today? Are you fishing for information?

Detective Beckwith: Are you withholding information?

Shiloh Bates: Well, I don't know what I can do to convince you. I mean, you confiscated my video. If you watched it, which I know you did, you know I'm telling the truth. Did you watch it, Detective Magee? Was it enjoyable?

Detective Magee: Nope, I didn't watch it. Sorry to disappoint you.

Shiloh Bates: Oh, no, that's good. I don't appreciate it when people get the goods for free.

Detective Magee: Ms. Bates, you're implicated in a murder. That doesn't concern you at all?

Shiloh Bates: Not in the least. Why should it? I've done nothing wrong. You have some lingerie. So? Anyone could've planted those in the shed at any time. It's not like they ever clean in there.

Detective Beckwith: How would you know?

Shiloh Bates: I wouldn't. I mean, just from what I know about Kenny. He's kinda slovenly, so I'm just assuming, okay? I'm assuming. Look, you've got nothing. I have a business to run. May I please be forever excused from this murder investigation?

Detective Magee: Well, not yet. There's a little matter of another item left behind in the shed that you say you've never been in.

Shiloh Bates: Can we please do away with your attempts at dramatic flair? What item are you talking about?

Detective Magee: A beverage can.

Shiloh Bates: Like a soda can? I don't drink soda.

Detective Beckwith: Call it what you'd like—soda, energy drink, carbonated floor sweepings from a chemical plant—but whatever was inside of it, the outside of it is covered in your prints.

Shiloh Bates: And you found it in the equipment shed?

Detective Magee: Yes. And there are no other fingerprints on it.

Shiloh Bates: So? Everyone knows I drink the Red Bull peach. It's easy enough to lift an empty out of the trash and drop it in the shed. You know, like to frame me?

Detective Beckwith: Are you saying you're being framed for the murder of Hoyt Biffle?

Shiloh Bates: Well, I have no other explanation of how that can with my fingerprints on it got into that shed because I certainly have never been in it.

Detective Beckwith: By who? Who'd frame you, do you think?

Shiloh Bates: Whom. By whom. And I couldn't tell you. I have a tendency to rub people the wrong way.

Detective Beckwith: You don't say.

Shiloh Bates: I'm used to it. Most people think I'm smug and superior. That, combined with my fine ass and perfect nose, tends to piss people off. Maybe if you'd do your job instead of harassing me, you'd find out by whom I'm being framed. Now, are we through?

Detective Magee: Sure. I have a feeling we'll be talking again before too long.
