Dear Miss Hammack,

I seen your picture in the paper, and it put me in mind of my childhood friend Merrilyn Kent. Her married name was Hadley. Her no‑good husband hasn't been seen around here in ages and Merrilyn passed on years ago, but you got a strong family resemblance to the Kents.

You should see if Beatrice Carmichael will talk to you. She looked after the Hadley girl for a while back in '58 or '59.

She used to keep company with Howard Hadley, even before Merrilyn passed on, so she'd probably lie as soon as look at you, but she might could tell you something that'd be of use to you.

I don't want to get involved in this mess so I can't give you my name, but the Izard tragedy broke all our hearts back then and I wanted to help you if I can.

Good luck and God bless.
