REPORTING OFFICER'S NARRATIVE(Brief narrative of the facts surrounding the offense and the arrest.)
At 6:11 a.m., the Sheriff's Department received a non-emergency call regarding the discovery of a wallet in a trash can at the B-Quick convenience store on Highway 7 South. The caller identified herself as Shirley Harris, a clerk at the B-Quick Store.
Unit #216 (Officer Kennon Winters) was dispatched to the scene and arrived at 6:25 a.m.
Upon arrival, Responding Officer (R/O) was met by an adult female who identified herself as Shirley Harris, the complainant.
Harris made the following verbal statement, which is reported in summary and not verbatim.
Harris said she arrived to open the store just before 6:00 a.m.
Just after 6:00 a.m., Harris was emptying the trash cans outside the store as part of the standard opening routine. After removing the lid on the trash can at the east end of the store, Harris observed a woman's wallet near the top of the trash inside.
Harris then retrieved the wallet and looked inside. She found no cash or credit cards but did find a Mississippi Driver's License issued to Zoe Chase of 1034 Suncrest Road, Oxford.
Harris said that, given the absence of cash and credit cards, she assumed the wallet had been stolen and notified police. Harris further indicated she had set aside the bag of trash in which she found the wallet.
R/O took the wallet and the bag of trash into evidence. Upon return to the Sheriff's Department, R/O submitted the evidence to Forensics officer B. D. Vincent.
