EVIDENCE OF TREATMENT N/A EXTERNAL EXAMINATION The autopsy is begun at 2:00 P.M. on February 28, 2022. The body is presented in a black body bag. At the time of examination, the body is clothed in a blue and gray striped long-sleeved shirt, blue denim jeans, and black ankle-high boots. A silver Timex watch and band, a silver ring with a Chinese yin-yang symbol, a silver ring with a crucifix symbol, and a silver hoop navel ring (partially avulsed) are also present on the body. The body is that of a normally developed, well-nourished Caucasian female measuring 67 inches in length, weighing 120 pounds, and appearing generally consistent with the stated age of twenty-nine years. The body is cold and unembalmed. Pronounced unblanching lividity is present on the anterior of the body in the regions of the left aspect of the face; the inner aspect of the left arm; the inner aspect of the right arm; the inner aspect of the right thigh, knee, and calf; the anterior aspect of the left thigh and knee; and the outer aspect of the left calf. The scalp is covered by long (22 inches) blonde hair. The body hair is female and average. The head is symmetric, and there is extensive evidence of external traumatic injury, described below. The eyes are open. The irides are green. The corneas are cloudy. The sclerae are clear. The pupils are asymmetrically dilated. The nose and ears are unremarkable. There are six piercings in each ear. The teeth are natural and well maintained and show injuries, described below. The anterior chest and abdomen show injuries described below. The breasts are female and contain no palpable masses. The pelvis is broken. The external genitalia is female and unremarkable. The anus is atraumatic. The back is symmetrical and intact. The upper and lower extremities are symmetric, normally developed, and intact with large contusions at the point of impact. The hands and nails show injuries, described below. Otherwise, there are no residual scars, markings or tattoos. INTERNAL EXAMINATION – PRELIMINARY SUMMARY All organs are within normal limits. No underlying pathological disease conditions or congenital anomalies were observed. Examination of the pelvic area indicates the subject had not given birth. Subject was not pregnant at the time of death. Additional details will be available in the complete autopsy report available 4-6 weeks following this report date. DESCRIPTION OF INJURIES - SUMMARY INJURIES OF THE HEAD AND NECK (1) Fractures of the left parietal, frontal, and temporal bones with the temporal being the most severely damaged. Opinion: These are fatal injuries. (2) Severe facial distortion due to muscle separation from the skull resulting from impact. Opinion: These are non-fatal perimortem injuries. (3) Several displaced teeth and tooth fragments concentrated primarily on the left side and including the central and lateral incisors, canine, and premolars. Teeth and fragments were found lodged in the tongue and the insides of the mouth and lips. Opinion: These are non-fatal perimortem injuries. (4) Fresh contusion around the base of the neck, measuring 6.75 inches long by 1/8-inch wide. Opinion: This is a non-fatal perimortem injury. INJURIES OF THE TORSO (1) Soft tissue ruptures of the abdomen and thorax. The colon and small intestines breached the abdominal rupture and ruptured, expelling the contents. The bladder ruptured, spreading urine throughout the cavity. Opinion: These are fatal injuries. INJURIES OF THE HANDS (1) Broken fingernails on the index and middle fingers of the left hand. Opinion: These injuries may be consistent with defensive wounds or may have resulted from impact. (2) Broken fingernails on the thumb, index and middle fingers of the right hand. Opinion: These injuries may be consistent with defensive wounds or may have resulted from impact. (3) Multiple fresh abrasions and contusions on the left hand and left forearm. Opinion: These injuries may be consistent with defensive wounds or may have resulted from impact. (4) Multiple fresh abrasions and contusions on the right hand and right forearm. Opinion: These injuries may be consistent with defensive wounds or may have resulted from impact. (5) Three fresh fingernail lacerations on the left palm. Opinion: These injuries are consistent with defensive wounds. LABORATORY DATA PRELIMINARY TOXICOLOGIC STUDIES Blood Ethanol: .031 Clinicopathologic Correlation: None Additional analyses pending. Victoria Witte, M.D. EVIDENCE COLLECTED 1. Samples of Blood (type A+), Urine, Bile, and Tissue (heart, lung, brain, kidney, liver, spleen) 2. Nineteen (19) autopsy photographs 3. Samples collected from under the deceased's fingernails 4. Five (5) postmortem x-rays 5. One (1) postmortem CT scan 6. One (1) postmortem MRI Clothing and fibers recovered from underneath the fingernails transferred to Mississippi State Crime Lab for further analysis. OPINION Time of Death: Rigor and livor mortis, in addition to body temperature and other factors, indicate an estimated time of death of between 12:15 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. on 02/28/2022. Immediate Cause of Death: Blunt impact trauma with multiple internal injuries Contributing Conditions: Mild alcohol intoxication Manner of Death: Undetermined
