Rachel's case notes

Rachel has been using her time away to review the evidence and figure out where the investigation stands

Since I've been stuck in Jackson helping Mom, I've been going over the clues to try and put everything in perspective.

I made a list of all the people and evidence we've come across, and then listed what we know and what we don't know about these things.

Hopefully, it will help us know what questions we need to ask.

— Rachel

People

Professor LowryDr. Charles Lowry

What we know:

  • He is a Civil War professor
  • He has been seen frequently at the Y Building where we found the bone.
  • He got pretty upset after we found the bone.
  • He is working on a biography of General Shegog.
  • He is secretly working with student Kevin Stark, who scanned a treasure map at the university.
  • He is not the most liked professor at the university.

What we don't know:

  • Why he would plant the bone if his work was already a secret.
  • If he has found the tunnels.
  • If he has a copy of the General's "Treasures of the Academy."
  • If he is related to Lowry of the University Greys.
  • What the receipt in his garbage can was for.

General ShegogGeneral Shegog

What we know:

  • He was a Civil War general who had a house in Oxford.
  • He collected treasure from soldiers and even had his own treasure, a gold crucifix.
  • He designed a labyrinth of tunnels beneath the university, where he buried his treasures to hide them from the Union soldiers.

What we don't know:

  • Too much to list

Mrs. ShegogMrs. Shegog

What we know:

  • She is the great-great granddaughter of General Shegog.
  • She lives in Oxford, in the same house General Shegog once lived in.
  • She is in possession of the general's old belongings, including a poem that may lead to the buried treasure.

What we don't know:

  • As much as I hate to question her, we're not sure if she's telling the truth about the heart-shaped ruby locket in the newspaper story.

Janitor Jerry Boyce/O'BrianJerry Boyce/O'Brian, the janitor

What we know:

  • He told us a story about another bone sighting on campus that we cannot confirm.

What we don't know:

  • If he is the real janitor because a different janitor was spotted near Professor Lowry's office.
  • If he's not the real janitor, how is he involved with Professor Lowry?

I.T. StarkI.T. Stark

What we know:

  • He was a member of the Union army who defected to the Confederate side to join Gen. Shegog.
  • He built the tunnels for the general.

What we don't know:

  • If Kevin Stark is related to him.

We haven't been able to get a good pic of Kevin StarkKevin Stark

What we know:

  •  He is a pharmacy student at Ole Miss.
  •  He is secretly working with Professor Lowry.
  •  He is in possession of a map signed by General Shegog.

What we don't know:

  •  If he's related to I.T. Stark.
  •  Why he's working with Professor Lowry.

  •  Did somebody plant it?

The hand-drawn map Kevin Seark was scanningThe hand-drawn map

What we know:

  • It's called Treasures of the Academy.
  • It's markings are consistent with the university's layout.
  • It's signed and dated by General Shegog.

What we don't know:

  • If it's real.
  • Why would Kevin Stark have it?
  • Where the treasure is located.

General Shegog's poemThe poem, "Treasures of the Academy"

What we know:

  • It was found in General Shegog's belongings.
  • It is very old and looks authentic.
  • At the end, it has a different meter and rhyme scheme.

What we don't know:

  • If the poem will lead us to the treasure.
