Case Description: Kimberly Pace death investigation
Investigators have put together the following summary of the witnesses' alibis for the window of time when the murder is believed to have been committed (~9:30 p.m. 10/15/2022 – ~12:00 a.m. 10/16/2022), based on their statements during interviews. Also included is information on the results of attempts to verify the alibis.
An alibi is designated partially or tentatively substantiated when:
- The witness's alibi is corroborated only by another witness who has a close personal relationship with him/her.
- One or more portions of the witness's time remain uncorroborated.
- The corroboration for all or part of the alibi is not conclusive.
Beck
Name: Arthur Beck Description: Kimberly Pace's neighbor Alibi: In his first interview, Beck said he fell asleep watching the news on TV and that he awoke around 1:30 a.m. to go to bed. In his second interview, Beck added that he worked in his backyard garden after dark with a light on before watching TV. Confirmed? Tentatively. Neighbor George Kim saw floodlights on in Beck's yard and heard his tools at about 9:00 p.m. |
Bricker
Name: Laurence Bricker Description: Kimberly Pace's colleague Alibi: In his second interview, Bricker said he was home all evening until he went to bed. Confirmed? Tentatively. Mrs. Bricker verified that they did not go out that evening |
Evans
Name: Paul Evans Description: Kimberly Pace's estranged boyfriend Alibi: In his first interview, Evans said he was at the C'est Belle Gallery until 11:00 p.m. After leaving, he stopped outside K. Pace's house around 11:05 - 11:10 p.m. but did not go in, then went home (Miguel Ochoa's house) to sleep. Confirmed? Partially. [1] Gallery owner Lawson corroborated the time Evans left the gallery and added that he had arrived at the gallery around 6:00 p.m. |
Freeman
Name: Tammy Freeman Description: Paul Evans's current roommate's girlfriend Alibi: In her interview, Freeman said she worked until about 9:00 p.m., went home and changed, then met Miguel Ochoa at Proud Larry's at about 10:00 p.m. Freeman said she and Ochoa stayed at Proud Larry's for approximately two hours, then went for a drive, and then to Ochoa's house, arriving there at about 1:00 a.m. Confirmed? Tentatively. Miguel Ochoa corroborates Freeman's account of their activities that evening. Employees at Proud Larry's confirm that Freeman and Ochoa were there from ~10:00 p.m. until ~12:00 a.m. |
Gladwell
Name: Jeremy Gladwell Description: Kimberly Pace's neighbor and friend Alibi: In his second interview, Gladwell said he was home all evening. He said he ordered pizza from Papa John's at 9:30 p.m., talked to a client on phone at 10:30 p.m., and answered email after eating pizza Confirmed? Partially. Records from Papa John's confirm an order from Gladwell placed at 9:33 p.m. and delivered at 10:05 p.m. Phone company records show two telephone lines at Gladwell's residence. Call records indicate an incoming call on one of the lines from Grant Technologies, Inc. at 10:41 p.m. and lasting 19 minutes, as well as an outgoing call on the second line to dixie-net.com placed at 1:10 p.m. and lasting 11 hours, 47 minutes. |
Lawson
Name: Lila Lawson Description: Owner, C'est Belle Gallery Alibi: In her interview, Lawson indicated she was at the C'est Belle Gallery from approximately 6:00 p.m. until about 11:00, then she went home to bed. Matthews
Name: Cody Matthews Description: Former student of Kimberly Pace Alibi: [1] In his first interview, Matthews said he was outside C'est Belle Gallery around 9:00 p.m. or 9:30 p.m. until he saw K. Pace leave. Then he went back to his dorm, had a pizza, and watched a movie. Roommate returned at midnight. Confirmed? Partially. Name: Becky Pace Description: Kimberly Pace's sister Alibi: In her second interview, B. Pace said she left the C'est Belle Gallery at the same time as K. Pace, around 9:30 p.m. B. Pace said she then bought a bottle of wine from Colonel's Wine & Liquor and went home. She arrived home around 10:00 p.m. and ordered pizza from Domino's Pizza. Confirmed? Partially. Gallery owner Lawson said she did not see B. Pace at the gallery after 9:30 p.m. Colonel's Wine & Liquor records show a credit card purchase for B. Pace at 9:53 p.m. Records from Domino's confirm an order from Pace placed at 10:04 p.m. and delivered at 10:41 p.m. |

Name: Patrick Richards Description: Ole Miss newspaper columnist Alibi: In his interview, Richards said he went to work at the Pizza Hut on University at 6:00 p.m. and worked until they closed.
